Product Overview
54672522 is the intake air filter element for Ingersoll Rand NG R-Series (Next Generation R-Series) 30–37 kW screw air compressors. It is mounted inside the external air cleaner assembly, upstream of the airend intake. As ambient air is drawn in, dust, grit and fibres are captured by the media before reaching the airend.
The condition of this element directly affects how long the downstream oil separator, oil filter and lubricant will last. One part number covers four models on the same platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N — both 30 kW and 37 kW, and both fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations. No need to differentiate by power or speed control when ordering.

Flow and Restriction
| Parameter | Value / Notes |
|---|---|
| Rated flow | Matched to NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform output; one element per compressor |
| Face velocity | Approx. 0.036 m/s |
| Initial pressure drop | With a new element fitted, intake vacuum should stabilise below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) |
| Operating differential range | From new-element restriction to blockage alarm value |
| Alarm / final restriction | Per the compressor intake vacuum gauge and controller alarm |
| Pressure drop vs. energy | Each 1 kPa rise in intake restriction increases compressor energy consumption by approx. 1% |
Why Restriction Drives Energy Cost
Rising intake restriction lowers intake pressure and air density. To hold the set discharge pressure and flow, the compressor must do more work, and specific power rises. Calculated at 0.7 MPa discharge and 101.3 kPa atmospheric pressure:
| Intake restriction | Compression ratio | Relative energy increase |
|---|---|---|
| 0 kPa (new element) | 7.91 | Baseline |
| 2 kPa | 8.07 | +2.0% |
| 4 kPa | 8.24 | +4.1% |
| 6 kPa | 8.41 | +6.3% |
From new to heavily blocked (0 → 6 kPa), energy consumption climbs by roughly 6% along the way. R-Series units commonly run 6000+ hours per year; that extra electricity far exceeds the price of one filter element — which is the engineering basis for the factory-set differential alarm.
Construction and Dimensions
| Parameter | Value / Notes |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | OD 194 mm × ID 114 mm × overall height 399 mm |
| Media body height | 367 mm (approx. 32 mm for both end structures) |

Installation and Maintenance Steps
One person, approx. 20 minutes.
- Shut down, depressurise, lock out/tag out. Isolate and lock the main power. Wait until the controller shows 0 bar system pressure. Check: gauge at zero, no residual air flow noise.
- Open the air cleaner housing. The air cleaner is externally mounted on the R-Series enclosure. Release the end-cover clips or bolts. Check: clips not seized, cover not deformed.
- Remove the old element and inspect it. Lift it out vertically and examine dust distribution and surface condition. Check: even grey-brown dust is normal; oily residue indicates oil carry-over upstream and the cause must be investigated.
- Clean the housing interior. Wipe the inner walls and base with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not blow compressed air into the housing — it drives dust into the intake tract. Check: no loose dust; in humid locations also check for condensate at the base.
- Inspect the breather filter. The breather filter (part 39123111) also runs on a 2000-hour interval. Inspect now: replace if blocked or heavily contaminated. Check: media intact, no heavy dust loading.
- Fit the new element and confirm the seal. Align 54672522 with the housing outlet and push fully home; confirm the radial seal ring is evenly compressed with no trapped material or skew. Check: element face flush with housing, even seal ring impression all round.
- Reassemble, reset the timer, verify. Refit the cover and tighten the clips. Reset the air filter service timer on the controller. Start the compressor and run at idle for 5 minutes. Check: intake vacuum stable below 0.05 bar (5 kPa), confirming a good seal; if vacuum is high, check that the seal ring is seated.
Non-negotiable: never start the compressor before the element is fully seated and the seal ring compressed. With a radial seal, if the element is not pushed fully home, air bypasses directly through the gap between seal and housing — effectively running with no filter at all.
FAQ
Which models use 54672522?
All four models on the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I, R37N. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same air filter. R30, R37, R30IE and R37IE also use this part number.
Is the air filter the same for R30 and R37?
Yes. 54672522 fits both R30 (30 kW) and R37 (37 kW). The difference between them is motor power and output; the air cleaner housing and element on the 30–37 kW platform are identical.
Will it fit an R45 or R55?
No. R45–R75 uses 54672530, and R90–R110 uses 23429822. Filter housings differ by power platform; cross-platform fitting is neither physically possible nor sealable.
How often should it be replaced?
Standard conditions: 2000 hours or 3 months, whichever comes first. In high-dust environments such as cement, quarrying or mining, shorten to approx. 1500 hours. Where site dust is persistently high, fit a high-dust pre-filter kit (24737298 / 24737306) — when the pre-filter layer is spent, replace only the pre-filter to extend main element life.
What else should be replaced at the same time?
Parts on the same 2000-hour service interval: oil filter 54672654, oil separator 54749247, breather filter 39123111. All share the same interval as the air filter; inspect and replace together to avoid staggered maintenance and repeated downtime.
Is there a service kit containing these parts?
Yes. 2000-hour kit 24730897 (for both fixed and variable speed), 4000-hour fixed-speed kit 24730939, 4000-hour variable-speed kit 24766123.
Which lubricant should be used?
Ingersoll Rand Ultra Coolant, part 38459582, suitable for all R-Series screw compressors. Available in 5 L, 20 L and 55-gallon formats.
Can a dirty element be blown clean and reused?
Not recommended. This is a radial-seal pleated paper element designed as a single-use item. Reverse blowing with compressed air only removes surface dust; fine particles embedded deep in the media cannot be removed, and blow pressure can fracture fibres or distort pleat spacing, creating invisible channels. Reusing a cleaned element is a "looks clean, actually failed" condition — the risk outweighs the benefit.
How do I know it needs changing?
Four signals: (1) rising intake vacuum gauge reading; (2) controller service-due alarm; (3) on removal, the media surface is fully covered in dust with no visible pleat pattern; (4) falling output with rising energy consumption. Any one signal means replace.
Is this a genuine part, and how is counterfeiting prevented?
The 54672522 described here is an Ingersoll Rand OEM part number. Genuine parts carry Ingersoll Rand anti-counterfeit marking and a warranty. Order by the part number itself — it is the only unambiguous identifier. Do not order on the basis of "fits R30/R37" or visual similarity alone.
Compatible Models
| No. | Model | Power | Speed control |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | R30I | 30 kW | Variable speed (VSD), with refrigerant dryer |
| 2 | R30N | 30 kW | Fixed speed |
| 3 | R37I | 37 kW | Variable speed (VSD), with refrigerant dryer |
| 4 | R37N | 37 kW | Fixed speed |
| 5 | R30 | 30 kW | — |
| 6 | R37 | 37 kW | — |
| 7 | R30IE | 30 kW | Variable speed |
| 8 | R37IE | 37 kW | Variable speed |
- All eight models above use this product; they belong to the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform. Fixed vs. variable speed and presence of a dryer do not affect air filter selection.
- Cross-platform interchange is not possible. Air filter part numbers for other power bands in the same series:
| Power platform | Air filter part number |
|---|---|
| R45–R75 (45–75 kW) | 54672530 |
| R90–R110 (90–110 kW) | 23429822 |
- If your compressor nameplate model is not listed, send a photo of the nameplate with the full model code and we will cross-check by part number before you order.
Related Parts
In the intake and lubrication system of the R-Series 30–37 kW platform, the following parts share the same service interval as the air filter (part numbers from the R30I/R30N/R37I/R37N parts manual):
| Component | Part number | Function | Inspection point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air cleaner assembly | 54652565 | Housing that carries and secures the air filter element | Check clips, sealing faces and outlet end for deformation |
| Oil filter | 54672654 | Removes wear debris and sludge from lubricant, protecting bearings and rotors | Replace with the air filter; check sealing face for leaks afterwards |
| Oil separator | 54749247 | Separates oil mist from compressed air and returns oil, controlling oil carry-over | Check the return line for blockage at replacement |
| Breather filter | 39123111 | Balances pressure in the separator tank and keeps external dust out of the oil circuit | Inspect with the air filter; replace if blocked |
| Lubricant (Ultra Coolant) | 38459582 | Standard coolant for R-Series screw compressors, providing lubrication and sealing | Test oil per compressor requirements; avoid mixing with other brands |
| 2000-hour service kit | 24730897 | Service pack for both fixed and variable speed | Supplies all same-interval wear parts in one order, reducing downtime |
| 4000-hour service kit | 24730939 (fixed speed) / 24766123 (variable speed) | Major service kit | Schedule according to running hours |
| High-dust pre-filter kit | 24737298 / 24737306 | Add-on pre-filter layer for sites with excessive dust | Replace only the pre-filter when spent, extending main element life |
Recommended pairing: the air filter, oil filter and oil separator share the 2000-hour interval and should be replaced together to avoid staggered maintenance. At dusty sites, fit the high-dust pre-filter kit first — the pre-filter costs far less than the main element and is faster to change.
